Tongan Research Association Conference December 2009
2009 CONFERENCE CALL FOR PAPERS
13th Tonga Research Association (TRA) Conference
University of California, Berkeley
California, USA
3-5 December 2009
THEME: SIU`ALAIMOANA: VOYAGING THROUGH THE OCEANS OF TONGAN THEORIES AND PRACTICES
Siu'alaimoana refers to the long-distant flight of birds across the ocean in search of food.
Although the main interest is in Tongan theories and practices, we welcome papers in any area of Tongan studies. Presenters have the option of writing and presenting papers in Tongan or English. If you plan to present in Tongan we encourage you to present a short summary of your paper in English.
For those who wish to present, please submit an abstract (of not more than 350 words) by May 31, 2009 (deadline) to Dr Tevita O. Ka'ili at the address given below. You can either send by mail, email or fax.
It will greatly help planning of the conference if you let Tevita know ASAP if you plan to offer a paper, even if you don't have an abstract at this stage!

Please consider submitting your work. This conference has long been dominated by white academics (no big surprise there) and so I encourage all Tongans to please submit your work, we need to make our voices heard.
This is one of the few conferences that focuses on issues surrounding Tongans and so I would love to see everyone there!
